K'taka Govt official sentenced to 6 months RI

Bangalore, Nov 24 (UNI) A forest department employee, caught red-handed by the Karnataka Lok Ayukta while accepting a bribe, was sentenced to six months rigorous imprisonment by the Bellary District and Sessions Court.

The Lok Ayukta officials, in a release here today, said Shanukappa, working as a Forester, Mobile Forest Squad in Bellary district, was also imposed a fine of Rs 1,500, in default of which to undergo simple imprisonment for two more months. He was convicted as per the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The Bellary Lok Ayukta station had filed the FIR in April 1997.
