Mysore, Nov 24 (UNI) Janata Dal (U) candidate for the Chamundeswari Assembly byelection A S Guruswamy today lodged a written complaint with the Election Observer against the ''high-handedness'' of suspected JD(S) workers in not allowing him to take up campaigning in the constituency.

Addressing newspersons here, Mr Guruswamy said he had requested Election Observer Raymond Peter to hold the elections in a free and fair manner, citing yesterday's incidents when he was denied entry into Hinkal, Bhogadi and Yelawala villages by suspected JD(S) workers for taking up electioneering. He also blamed the police for not taking proper action against the workers.

He appealed to the administration to initiate necessary action against any anti-social element creating fear psychosis among the electorate.

Mr Guruswamy had been provided with police security following threat to his life.

JD(U) State President B Somashekhar opened the party election office in the city.
