Jaya thanks LS speaker for decision to instal MGR statue

Chennai, Nov 24 (UNI) AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa today expressed the gratitude to Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee for his decision to unveil the statue of AIADMK founder M G Ramachandran in Parliament House on December seven.

''I also thank Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Parliamentary group leader Yerran Naidu and his counterpart from Samajwadi Party Ram Gopal Yadav for raising their voice for the issue at the meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee for Statues, chaired by Mr Chatterjee yesterday,'' she said in a statement here.

She also thanked Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekawat and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for having consented to take part in the unveiling ceremony.

Ms Jayalalithaa had expressed displeasure over the 'undue delay' in unveiling the MGR statue and accused Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi of having stalled its installation, triggering a controversy.
