IMD modernisation plan under consideration: Sibal
New Delhi, Nov 24 (UNI) The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) is planning to install around 55 Doppler Weather radars to cover whole area of the country under its proposed modernisation plan in a phased manner, the Lok Sabha was informed today.
Minister of Science, Technology and Earth Sciences Kapil Sibal said in a written reply that the proposed modernisation plan is under consideration of the ministry. These Radars will help in real time monitorng of weather system giving rise to heavy rainfall and using the Radar data rainfall amounts over a given area can also be estimated.This information can be used by the concerned dam authorities to control release of water, Mr Sibal added.
