Hindalco stops copper smelter operation

New Delhi, Nov 24 (UNI) Hindalco Industries Ltd today said it has temporarily stopped operations at its copper manufacturing facility at Dahej due to the shortage of copper concentrate, the basic raw material needed to operate the custom smelters.

''Of late, due to disruption of production in some copper mines, the availability of concentrate in international markets has become scarce,'' a company statement said.

Due to these circumstances, the treatment and refining charges prevailing in the spot market at this point in time is not remunerative vis-a-vis the conversion cost of one of the three smelters, it added.
