Goa restrictes AP for 249, Ganeshraj shines

Margao, Nov 24 (UNI) Fine bowling spell by off spinner Ganeshraj Narvekar enabled host Goa to restrict Andhra Pradesh to 249 all out in 88 overs on the opening day of the three-day south zone under-15 Polly Umrigar Trophy cricket tournament here today.

Narvekar was ably assisted by duo Rudresh Azgaokar (2 for 50) and Mahadev Gawas (2 for 25) in the demolition act.

Andhra Pradesh after winning the toss, opted to bat first and managed to score 249 on the strength of S K M Bhasha 74 (7x4), Y Premsagar 40, T VamshiKrishna 32 and N Satyanarayan 38.

In the second match at MCC ground, Hyderabad were 128 for 5 in 47.3 overs against title aspirant Karnataka when umpires called off the play one hour before the close, due to bad light.

The play started only after lunch as the wicket was wet due to unseasonal rains the previous night.

Hyderabad, who were put to bat after Karnataka won the toss, managed to score 128 losing their five wickets. A Akash 47 (8x4) and Sayyad Ali 28 contributed to the Hyderabad total. Rahul Runnaut not out 24 and Sandeep Gaud (zero) were at the crease.

Bharat Kondaji claimed 2 wickets conceding 28 runs, while Arjun Bhadari, Ronit More and Karun Nair bagged one wicket each.

In the third match at Fatorda, a classy unbeaten hit up by R Vivek 58 laced with 11 fours and valuable contribution from Pradeep Kumar 48 (4x4), Aditya Ganesh 31 (5x4) and not out Sahinath's breezy 31 propelled Tamil Nadu post 160 for 3 in 51 overs against Kerala when the play was called off due to bad light half an hour before the close of the play.

Though the play started in time in the morning, the umpires were forced to stop the play after 9.2 overs due to sudden drizzle.

The play was later resumed after tea.

At the close of the play at stumps R Vivek not out 58 and Sahinath not out 31, were at the crease. Ashwin Sharma claimed 2 wickets for 26 runs and M Mithun 1 for 20. About 182 minutes of play was lost due to rain.
