Five 'ashtadhatu' idols stolen from temple

Azamgarh, Nov 24 (UNI) Five 'ashtadhatu' (eight metal metal) idols, estimated to be worth Rs 1.5 crore in the international market, were stolen from an ancient Ramjanki temple in Atrauli area here last night, police today said.

According to temple priest Mahant Indrajit Tiwari, he had left the temple and gone home after evening prayers and rituals.

However, he found the idols missing, when he arrived at the temple this morning.

The thieves also took Rs 3,000 in cash and other valuables, Mahant Tiwari claimed.

The police have started investigations in this regard.
