Elephant tusks worth Rs 7 lakh seized

Agartala, Nov 24 (UNI) Five elephant tusks, worth Rs 7 lakhs, were seized from in front of the historical Rabindra Bhavan here, police said.

They said the seizure was made yesterday when a patrolling party of West district police intercepted three persons at about 2300 hrs.

Police recovered the tusks from their possession. On interrogation, the arrested persons revealed that they wanted to sell the tusks.

The police said among those arrested three were from West district. They were produced before the court.

Meanwhile, five Bangladeshis were arrested yesterday from Battala area here as they were moving suspiciously. On interrogation, they said they sneaked into India to visit their relatives. ''The arrested Bangladeshi nationals did not have any valid documents,'' the police added. They were produced before the court.
