CPI(M) favours amicable settlement on Mullaperiyar
New Delhi, Nov 24 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (Marxist) today welcomed the Centre-sponsored meeting between the Chief Ministers of Kerala and Tamil Nadu on the Mullaperiyar dam issue in Delhi on November 29 and said nothing should be done to worsen the situation.
CPI(M) Polit Bureau said in a statement here that there were apprehensions about the safety of the Mullaperiyar dam in Kerala and the concern was about the requirement of water in Tamil Nadu.
"What is required is an amicable settlement which will look after the interests of both the states." The CPI(M), which is heading the Left coalition government in Kerala, said nothing should be done to worsen the situation in the form of blockades, picketings, demonstrations and counter demonstrations.
"The CPI(M) places utmost importance on the maintenance of friendly and fraternal relations between the people of two states," the statement said "there has to be a calm atmosphere in which the complicated issue can be discussed and resolved," it added.
