Patna, Nov 24: The Congress in Bihar today accused the Nitish Kumar government of failing to perform.

Releasing a white paper on the performance of the government on completion of one year in office, the Congress said the NDA had 'failed' in fulfilling its prepoll promises of checking crimes, creating investment-friendly atmosphere and providing jobs.

Releasing the white paper in a press conference here, president of Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) Sadanand Singh said the government had 'miserably failed' in checking crime despite the fact that the NDA had promised to improve law and order within three months of coming to power.

He said 2254 murders, 585 kidnappings besides, spurt in bank dacoities during the last one year was an open testimony of the fact that the government could not instill a sense of fear among the criminals.

''Even ancient statues of high antique value kept in the Patna museum and firearms in the Muzaffarpur armoury were stolen which was unprecedent in the history of Bihar,'' he added.

Referring to the rape of dalit women in Lakhisarai and killing of dalits in presence of police officers in Ara, he said the government had failed to protect the life and prestige of these people, adding atrocities against the weaker section were on the rise.

''Ruling party MLAs are creating unruly scenes in full public glare but the state government does not bother to take action against them. The police mercilessly lathicharge 'siksha mitras', junior engineers and homegurads in Patna who took out peaceful procession in support of their demands but no action was taken,'' Mr Singh added.
