Shimla, Nov 24 (UNI) The entire tribal belt of Kinnuar, Lahaul Spiti, Pangi and other higher and mid hills of Himachal Pradesh continued to reel under intense coldwave conditions with temperatures remaining five to seven degrees below normal.

Though there was no report of any fresh spell of snow and rain from any part of the state during the last 24 hrs, coldwave conditions were prevailing in the entire state with the pale sun failing to warm people of the region.

The sky was clear over the state to begin with before being covered by thick clouds as the day progressed and strong velocity winds swept the entire region, causing temperatures to plummet.

Official sources said efforts were on to rescue a few tourists and their vehicles stranded in Lahaul valley following fresh spell of snowfall on Wednesday.

The Border Road Organisation (BRO) had already officially closed the road from November one, saying it would not be in a position to carry out any rescue operations stranded after that date.

The tribal valleys of Lahaul, Spiti, Pin, Hangrag and Pangi continued to reel under piercing coldwave conditions with mercury staying between minus eight and minus 14 degree Celsius in the higher altitude areas.

Kalpa in Kinnaur district recorded a low of minus 4.4 degrees, while Shimla, Sundernagar and Bhuntar recorded night temperatures of 4.6, 5.1 and 4.5 degree Celsius respectively, the met office said.

Chamba, Kullu and Kangra Valleys also shivered under severe coldwave conditions as mighty Dhauladhar Ranges and other high mountain passes had moderate to heavy snowfall on Wednesday night.

The met office predicted rain and snow at isolated places in the state during the next 24 hrs.
