AP CM assures help to cyclone affected people: CPM

Vijayawada, Nov 24 (UNI) Communist Party of India (Marxist) district secretary V Umamaheswara Rao today said Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had assured a delegation of the party that all possible assistance would be extended to the people affected by the recent cyclone.

Talking to newspersons here, Mr Rao said the delegation, which met Chief Minister recently apprised him about the problems faced by the people in Krishna district.

The delegation submitted a memorandum to Dr Reddy, urging the state government to distribute 20 kg of rice and five litres of kerosene to all afected people, irrespective of ration card, Rs 2,500 per acre for damaged paddy crop, implementation of crop insurance scheme by taking village as a unit, instead of mandal and distribution of paddy and blackgram seeds to the peasants.

Informing Chief Minister that 9,600 looms were damaged in the floods, the delegation urged for compensation of Rs 2,000 per loom to the weavers, provision of ex-gratia to the families of two missing fishermen and implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) for at least six months in the district, he added.
