6 Injured in Saharanpur violence

Lucknow, Nov 24 (UNI) Security has been tightened in Saharanpur following clashes between the political party workers during the BJP sponsored 'bandh' today, which left six people injured.

Some vehicles, shops and other properties were ransacked by BJP workers, who were agitated over the violent incidents which had taken place during nagar palika meeting yesterday.

The district administration was on its toes to prevent the political agitation from taking communal proportions as BJP activists indulged in brickbat in some of the sensitive pockets dominated by the minority community as well.

Despite heavy police 'bandobast', at least six persons were reported injured across the town. Most people were injured in group clashes.

Saharanpur SSP R K Chaturvedi told UNI over phone the situation was being brought under control. Admitting efforts were on to prevent communal trouble, he said additional force was deployed in the city.

The SSP blamed 'election mood' as the reason behind the clashes.

He claimed political parties were using any given opportunity to their advantage.
