Trout fish touches record prod of 150 tons
Srinagar, Nov 23: The annual trout fish production in Jammu and Kashmir has reached a record of 150 tonnes, generating an income of Rs 75 lakh, a senior official of the fisheries department said.
He said 20 lakh fish seed is also being produced in 35 existing fish Trout units in the state.
For rehabilitation of Trout streams every year 10 lakh Trout seed is stocked, during the current year more than 2,000 anglers have enjoyed angling in Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Gurez, Mawar, Hamel nalla, Ferozpora and Sindh Valley thereby enjoying the recreational trouting, he added.
Joint Director Fisheries department Showket Ali said, ''with the inproduction of the fast growing species of Gross silver carp, in private sector, 200 ponds have been constructed during last year in the state for which an amount of Rs 1.20 lakh has being provided to each beneficiary.
During the current financial year more than 200 such ponds are being established in the state, Mr Ali said during a special trout sale organised by Fisheries department at Sopore in north Kashmir.
