Police chief asked to file reply on action against online community

Mumbai, Nov 23 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today directed Police Commissioner A N Roy to file a reply within one week on the action initiated against an online community www.orkut.com for allegedly carrying objectionable material on Chatrapati Shivaji.

A division bench, comprising Chief Justice H S Bedi and Justice V M Kanade, was hearing a public interest litigation filed by Thane-resident Subodh Balsaraf who has alleged that the language used on the site was vulgar and defamatory on Chatrapati Shivaji.

The petitioner said he had lodged a complaint in this regard with the Kapurbavde Police Station at Thane on November 13 but no action was taken against the offenders.

The petitioner further stated that he had also lodged a complaint with the Cyber Cell of Maharashtra Police but the Cyber Cell, too, had not initiated any action.

Mr Balsaraf saaid he had also written a letter to Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil regarding the offending site.
