PBMC Chairman Election on Nov 24

Port Blair, Nov 23 (UNI) Election for the post Port Blair Municipal Council Chairman for the second term will be held during a special meeting of PBMC on November 24.

''The meeting is to be held under the provision of Section 14 of the A&N Islands (Municipal) regulation 1994,'' an official release of Andaman and Nicobar Administration said here today.

Earlier due to disqualification of five elected members of the Port Blair Municipal Council the election for the Chairman could not be carried out earlier this month.

On August 20, 2006 the Administrator of Andaman and Nicobar islands had disqualified five elected members of the Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) for not filing the declaration of assets within the stipulated period after last election.

Earlier this week, all the five members had solved all legal problems and joined back the Port Blair Municipal Council clearing the hurdles for the election of Chairman for PBMC.

Election for Port Blair's lone Municipal body 'Port Blair Municipal Council was held on 21, September last year.
