NMCE posts record delivery of cardamom in November series

Ahmedabad, Nov 23 (UNI) The National Multi-Commodity Exchange (NMCE) has posted a record physical delivery of 207 lots (quintals) of cardamom in the November-2006 series that ended last week.

The physical delivery of the commodity during the current calendar year hovered between 100-200 quintals, going up to 178 quintals in February and 139 quintals in June, which were higher than that recorded by any other exchanges in any month, a release issued here today said.

The hot spice, being traded on the NMCE since April-2004, has recorded a high of 137 quintals within six months of its launch in October-2004 and recorded the highest-ever delivery of 211 quintals in July-2004. In 2005, it had peaked at 79 deliveries in the month of March, to pick up again in 2006.

At present, the commodity is being traded at NMCE in as many three series - from December-2006 to February-2007, the daily volume going up to 526 lots yesterday (November 22, 2006) in near December series alone.

This week, cardamom future is being traded in the range of Rs 340-357 (per kg) in the near series, and up to Rs 385 in far ones, as against spot prices Rs 323-325.

Besides cardamom, the other agri-commodities actively traded on NMCE terminals include pepper, rubber and raw jute.
