NLC labour union to go on token strike

Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, Nov 23 (UNI) The DMK-affiliated Labour Progressive Front (LPF) today decided to go on a day's token strike beginning 2200 hrs tonight to express solidarity with the contract labourers whose agitation entered the tenth day today.

The 10,300 contract labourers are demanding 8.33 per cent bonus.

LPF President G Dhandapani said employees belonging to the federation will participate in the token strike.

Meanwhile, an NLC official said an internal circular had been issued to the employees asking them not to participate in the strike.

To a question, he said the NLC was currently producing 1,183 MW and the impact of the strike on power production could be known only tomorrow.

Police sources said adequate security would be given to the employees attending work during the strike.

NLC has 19,000 regular employees. There are 14 trade unions of which only LPF is recognised.
