New Delhi, Nov 23 (UNI) Taking suo-motu cognizance of a newspaper report about Haryana police personnel beating up a Gurgaon resident, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sought a factual report from the state DGP on the incident within four weeks.

The Commission has directed that a copy of the report be sent to the DGP and the outcome of the departmental inquiry be intimated to it.

''The whole incident raises a serious issue of violation of human rights of the citizens,'' NHRC said.

According to the report, published on November 17, DLF resident Mr Jitender Singh Sandhu was beaten for about 20 minutes with belts and batons as he had asked the policemen to behave properly.

Mr Sandhu and his daughter were taking a stroll when two policemen asked them what they were doing and who the girl was. Mr Sandhu told them that she was his daughter but the cops started asking lewd questions about her.

On being told to behave properly, the cops took Mr Sandhu to the police post and beat him up.

Gurgaon SSP said the three policemen involved in the incident have been suspended, pending a departmental inquiry into the incident.
