Marica header gives Shakhtar a lifeline

DONETSK, Ukraine, Nov 22 (Reuters) Ciprian Marica today headed home in the 61st minute to give Shakhtar Donetsk a 1-0 victory over AS Roma in their Champions League Group D match.

The result handed Shakhtar a lifeline as they now have five points, two behind Roma, and could still snatch second place in the group with one game to play.

In one of several chances for the home side, Jadson raced in on goal alone in the 75th minute only to have the ball taken away from him by Italian keeper Doni.

Brazilian Brandao had a shot from close range parried by Doni in injury time.
