Lahiri cards 69 to maintain lead in Samarvir Sahi golf

Chandigarh, Nov 23 (UNI) Ninteen-year-old Anirban Lahir returned an impressive card of three-under 69 to keep a four-stroke advantage on top of the leader board after 54 holes on the third day of the Royal Challenge Samarvir Sahi Amateur Golf Championship at the par-72 Chandigarh Golf Club here today.

Lahiri's tally now stands at six-under 210.

Kapurthala's Gaganjeet Bhullar also fired a round of three-under 69 to occupy the second place at two-under 214, three strokes ahead of Noida's Simarjeet Singh who compiled a round of one-under 71 to occupy the third place at 217.

Meanwhile, GAIL's Jasjeet Singh, who was placed second overnight shot a two over 74 to slip to fourth position with a three-day tally of 219.

Joseph Chakola and Saurabh Bahuguna brought in an identical card of two under 70 to share the fifth place at 220.

Top amateur Anirban Lahiri had a perfect front nine with three birdies. After a par on the first, Lahiri scorched the greens with perfect display of putting as he birdied the second, fourth and sixth to turn at three under. On the back nine, luck ran out for Lahiri as he dropped shots on the 12 th and 15th but recovered with birdies on the 14th and the closing hole.

Gaganjeet started badly with a bogey on the first but recovered well to fire a birdie on the next hole but then missed a chip-putt on the fourth to register another bogey. This was followed by consecutive birdies on the seventh and eighth as he turned at one-under. On the back nine, Gangjeet displayed his true class with birdies on the 12th, 13th and 17th. His only blemish came on the par-four 15th.

Simarjeet started well with consecutive birdies on the second and third to turn at two-under. On the back nine, Simarjeet dropped shots on the 14 th and 15th but recovered with a birdie on the 17th.
