K'taka Govt to recruit 133 veterinary doctors

Mangalore, Nov 23 (UNI) The Karnataka Government has issued appointment orders to 133 veterinary doctors and the State Public Service Commission has begun the process of recruiting another 244, Animal Husbandry Minister Revu Nayak Belamagi said today.

Talking to newspersons here, he said there were altogether 837 vacant veterinary doctor posts and steps would be taken to fill all of them in a phased manner.

Mr Belamagi said that under 'Karnataka Janaseree' insurance scheme, to be launched next month, sheep and one lakh shepherds would be covered initially. Already, Rs 4.70 crore had been released for the purpose.

The Minister said the Cabinet had decided to release Rs 2.90 crore towards 50 per cent subsidy for purchase of maize by poultry owners who had suffered loss due to bird flu in the State.

He said the Government was seriously considering the proposal of compulsory registration of all poultry farms, hatcheries and chicken food producers for systematic marketing.
