Inzy does an Imran, starts fund-raising campaign for Multan hospital

Lahore, Nov 23 (UNI) Following in the footsteps of Imran Khan, Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul Haq has launched a fund-raising campaign to build a charity hospital in his home town Multan.

The burly Multan player yesterday announced his plans to auction his 1992 World Cup bat and also donate 10 per cent of his match fee from non onwards for the cause.

Imran Khan was the first Pakistani cricketer who championed a similar cause and built the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital&Research Centre, a state-of-the-art charitable cancer hospital here using donations.

Addressing a press conference at the under-construction hospital that is partly operational, Inzamam said it would require Rs 1.5 million and need seven years to complete the whole project of Bakhtawar Amin Memorial Trust (BAMT) Hospital.

''I will donate 10 per cent of fee from each match along with the prizes I will receive in the ground, to the hospital,'' said Inzamam, a member of the governing body of the BAMT.

Inzamam also announced his plans to travel throughout the country and abroad to raise funds.

He also informed that his cause has found wide support from other members of the Pakistan team, who have committed to donate cricket memorabilia for auction.

Indian captain Rahul Dravid and his teammates were present at the inauguration of the hospital in Multan earlier this year.
