Delhi Cong hails SC ruling, urges designating more commercial areas
New Delhi, Nov 23 (UNI) Welcoming the Supreme Court order to provide relief from sealing to the 18000 traders who had submitted affidavits in the court, the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee today urged the MCD to designate more roads as commercial/mixed use areas to give respite to the remaining traders.
The Supreme Court, in a major relief, permitted over 18,000 traders in Delhi, who had intimated the Monitoring Committee that they have stopped commercial activity, to continue their activities till a final decision on the two notifications of September 7 and 15.
Hailing today's court order, DPCC chief Rambabu Sharma said the relief to traders was a result of efforts made by the Urban Development Ministry and the MCD over the last nine months.
Addressing mediapersons here, Mr Sharma also urged the MCD to speed up the process of identifying the remaining roads, in addition to the 2183 already notified by the Delhi government, as commercial or mixed use areas to give relief from sealing to traders all over Delhi.
Mr Sharma said that never before in the history of Delhi was the Master Plan amended thrice in six months, as had been done between March and September, to give relief to the common man and the establishments - on March 28, September 7 and then on September 22.
At the same time, he urged Leader of the MCD House Jitender Kochar, who was present at the press meet along with Standing committee chairman Jai Kishen Sharma, deputy chairnman Tarsel Bansal and municipal councillors Brij Mohan Sharma, Satbir Sharma and Sanjay Puri, that the corporation should, within the next ten days, designate more areas as commercial or mixed use roads so as to send the list to the Delhi Government for notification of the roads/streets to bring relief to traders affected by sealing.
He also expressed the hope that the Union Urban Development Ministry, based on suggestions by Centre, MCD and the Congress Party, would implement Master Plan 2021 before January 31 next year to find a lasting solution to the sealing problem.
