Cong demands cotton purchase centre in Malwa Nimad region

Bhopal, Nov 23 (UNI) Expressing concern over rising prices of cotton, the Madhya Pradesh Congress has demanded Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar order setting up of a purchase centre of the Cotton Corporation of India at the Malwa Nimad region.

In a letter to Mr Pawar, state Congress President Subhash Yadav said farmer depended much on the cotton crop and opening of a centre for procuring cotton was necessary.

Mr Yadav pointed out that Madhya Pradesh was a major cotton producing state and most of the cotton was grown in Khandwa and Khargone districts.

He said businessmen paid less amount to farmers as large quantity of cotton was grown in the region.
