Assistance for expectant mothers doubled
New Delhi, Nov 23 (UNI) The Centre has doubled the cash assistance for expectant mothers under the "Janani Surakasha Yojana" from this month, Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss informed the Lok Sabha today.
An increased cash assistance of Rs 1,400 would be given to each woman, including from the SC and ST families, who deliver in the government health centres like sub-centre, PHC, CHU, FRU or in the general wards of district and state hospitals or acredited private institutions.
In a written reply, he said the enhancement is not limited by the number of births.
However, the scheme is applicable only to the rural areas of Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Asom, Orissa, Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir.
