UPCC's jail bharo: Sonia's representative courts arrest

Lucknow, Nov 22 (UNI) AICC president and Rae Bareli MP Sonia Gandhi's constituency representative Kishori Lal Sharma today courted arrest as part of the 'jail bharo' agitation of the Uttar Pradesh Congress.

The state Congress had launched the agitation three days ago following a call by Ms Gandhi for 'jail bharo' to uproot the Mulayam Singh Yadav government.

A party spokesperson said here Sharma, along with 11,000 party workers courted arrest before the Rae Bareli district magistrate.

The authorities, however, released all of them soon after.

In Sultanpur, former union minister Sanjay Singh offered his arrest before the authorities.

On November 27, the UP Congress would organise a 'Lucknow ghero programme'.

''We will not only gherao the Vidhan Bhawan building, but lay seige to the entire district,'' UPCC president Salman Khurshid said.
