Strengthen Rythu Mitra Groups: Collector

Chittoor, Nov 22 (UNI) District Collector S S Rawat today called for strenghtening the Rythu Mitra Groups (RMG) with the cooperation of farmers at the mandal level.

Addressing the agriculture and horticulture officials at a meeting here to make the rythu mitra groups active, he said only 40 per cent of the 11,731 RMG were functioning. He wanted the officials to coordinate with farmers at the mandal level to activate the groups.

The collector directed the officials to conduct training in pest management, water conservation, yield improvement and motivate the farmers to promptly repay the loans to the banks.

For the farmers to avail liberal crop loan and other benefits, banks were keen on leading group-wise rather than extending loans to individuals, the collector added.
