SAD welcomes EC notices to Punjab Cong MLAs

Jalandhar, Nov 22 (UNI) Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) today expressed satisfaction over issuance of notices by the Election Commission (EC) to 37 ruling Congress MLAs including Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, on its petition filed to seek their disqualification under the Office of Profit Act.

SAD spokesman Dr Daljit Singh Cheema told UNI that party president and former Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had appealed to the Commission for speedy hearing and disposal of the case and also demanded that these MLAs should be debarred from contesting the next assembly election.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued notices to 37 legislators and sought reply on or before December 8.
