Real Betis winger Odonkor faces lengthy injury layoff

MADRID, Nov 22 (Reuters) Real Betis winger David Odonkor faces an extended spell on the sidelines after damaging his kneecap playing for Germany, the Primera Liga club said today.

The German Football Federation has sent Betis a medical report explaining that the winger received a heavy blow to his kneecap during last week's 1-1 draw with Cyprus in a Euro 2008 qualifier.

The Spanish club added that a small piece of bone appeared to have been dislodged as a result of the blow.

Betis said they would carry out further tests on the 22-year-old to determine whether surgery was required.

Odonkor, who was part of Germany's World Cup squad, joined Betis from Borussia Dortmund for six million euros (7.69 million dollars) during the close season.
