One shot dead in encouter near Mizoram-Asom border

Aizawl, Nov 22 (UNI) Mizoram police shot dead a man in Mizoram-Asom border last evening, allegedly involve in highway robbery.

Kolasib Additional SP Lalremmuana said the victim was identified as Kavir, was shot on the hips and another person identified as Rahim Uddin (28) was arrested.

According him, Vairengte police carried out operation following the tips that a group of non-Mizos were entered Chhimluang village along Aizawl-Silchar highway.

After day long search the police was challenged by the group near the jungles along the highway and Kavir was shot dead in retaliatory fire while police managed to arrest one of them, he said.

Lalremmuana added that two country made guns along with a toy AK 47 rifle was recovered from the spot. The group has been operating in Asom-Mizoram border robbing and looting passengers travelling on the national highway.

Meanwhile, Mizoram police sized a bundle of fake Indian currency of Rs 500 amounting Rs 95,000 from Champai district of the state, along Indo-Myanmar border yesterday.

Acting on a tip-off police carried out search in a Aizawl bound tata sumo and found the notes from the baggage of one Lalmuankima (36).

Police arrested him along with his Myanmari accompany Vanlalsanga (24) and brought for interogation.

Suspectedly, they are linked with the international currency summgling racket operating in Indo-Myanmar and Bangladesh.
