Nepal agreement historic: JD(U)

New Delhi, Nov 22 (UNI) Janata Dal (United) President Sharad Yadav today termed as 'historic' the peace agreement between the Government and Maoists in Nepal and asked the Indian government to take ''utmost care in dealing with positive developments in Nepal''.

In a statement here, Mr Yadav said the agreement between Nepalese Prime Minister G P Koirala and Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) Prachanda was a most welcome development for Nepal and all the countries of South Asia.

''The agreement, heralding the end of the armed struggle in Nepal, will consolidate peace, security and development in Nepal.'' He said that it would enhance peace and security of all neighbouring countries, particularly India. ''A disturbed neighbour is never a conducive factor for the security of any country,'' he observed.

He said that democratic forces of India should, in tune with tradition, help the process of healing in Nepal.

''These are extra-ordinarily significant times for friendly relations between India and Nepal and we should do everything possible to strengthen the forces of peace and democracy in Nepal.'' UNI AJ RR ND1854
