NE states get funds under ARWSP
Aizawl, Nov 22 (UNI) Ministry of Rural Development has released a sum of Rs 860 lakh with an additional sum of Rs 1,720 lakh to the northeastern states under Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme (ARWSP) for the last quarter of the current fiscal.
State rural development official here today said that the additional funds are to be used for execution of schemes to provide safe drinking water facilities to rural habitations and schools.
According to the sources about 85 per cent rural areas of the region have already been provided with safe drinking water facilities and the centre has plan to cover all non-covered village would provided by next two years.
Apart form extracting ground water Mizoram, Meghalaya, Arunachal and Nagaland govts have taken initiative to harvest rain water during monsoon, sources stated.
Altogether Rs 74.42 crore released to 18 States in the country recently as first instalment with an additional allocation of Rs 179.84 crore under ARWSP during 2006-07.
