Nanotechnology to drive growth in IT sector

Kolkata, Nov 22: The next wave of global advancement in IT and Telecom will be driven by innovations in nanotechnology, Director of Cambridge University NanoScience Centre Mark Welland has said.

Speaking on the sidelines of a valedictory session on Indo-UK Nanotechnology seminar organised by the British Council, S.N.Bose National Centre of Basic Sciences here yesterday, Mr Welland said, ''With Nanotechnology paving the way for miniaturisation of electronic, its impact will touch all major sectors like healthcare, energy, food, beverages and environment.'' Prof Welland said, ''The biggest advantage of this technology is that it reduces cost of computation. In future, computation memory, mobile memory, future digital cameras and even IPod Nano would be driven by Nanotechnology.''

Speaking at the programme, S N Bose National Centre of Basic Sciences Professor Arup Raychaudhuri said that progress of research on this subject in India is considerably good in this field. Around 100 nano-technology related research projects have been funded by Department of Science and Technology and various foreign organisations.
