Man sentenced to 2 years RI for stealing electricity

Ahmedabad, Nov 22 (UNI) Special court judge V Y Desai here has sentenced one person to two years rigorous imprisonment holding him guilty of stealing electricity.

The special court, set up to try cases under the Electricity Act, also slapped a fine of Rs 88.98 lakh on Padmaji Madhaji Rabari or face a further nine months imprisonment in case he defaulted in payment of the fine.

The case against Mr Rabari was registered last year. He was accused of drawing electricity from the Torrent Power network through an illegal connection and distributing the same to over 200 hutments and ten shops in the Amraiwadi locality of the city.

Torrent Power officials had raided his premises and detected the theft. An FIR was filed with the Sabarmati police station which has been especially established to investigate power theft cases.
