Lahiri forges ahead in Royal Challenge Samarvir Sahi golf
Chandigarh , Nov 22 (UNI) Member of the Indian team for Doha Asian Games, Anirban Lahiri of Bangalore, fired a two-under 70 to assume sole lead after the mid-way stage of the Royal Chalenge Samarvir Sahi Amateur Golf Championship at the par-72 Chandigarh Golf Club here today.
Lahiri's tournament tally now stands at three-under 141.
Overnight leader and another member of the Indian golf team, Gaganjeet Bhullar of Kapurthala and Noida's Jasjeet Singh were joint second at one-over 145. Bhullar shot a three-over 75 while Jasjeet submitted a card of one-over 73.
Simarjeet Singh carded a round of three-over 75 to share the fourth place with Balpreet Singh Ghuman at 146. Third member of the Indian team Joseph Chakola and Saurabh Bahuguna scored an identical card of level par 72 to share the sixth place at 150. Karan Vasudeva returned a card of two-over 74 to be placed eighth at 152, while Raj Randhawa and Moin Malak were in joint ninth place at 153.
Top Indian amateur Lahiri had a perfect round today. After a series of pars, Lahiri dropped a shot each on the fifth and sixth to turn at two over. However, he found his touch on the back nine with birdies on the 10 th and 13th followed by an eagle on the 16th where he chipped-in from 50 yards.
Jasjeet started off well but poor putting cost him dearly on the front nine. After a series of pars, Jasjeet fired consecutive birdies on the fifth and sixth hole. However, his joy was short-lived as his tee-shot on the seventh landed out-of-bounds resulting in a double bogey. This was followed by two consecutive bogies as he turned at two-over. On his return leg, Jasjeet birdied the 12 th to finish the day at one-over.
Bhullar found birdies extremely elusive on a forgettable day. He started with consecutive bogies on the opening two holes as he turned at two-over. On his return leg, Bhullar managed bogies on 15 th and 17th interspersed with a birdie on the 16th.
