Surat, Nov 22 (UNI) Junior and resident doctors of Surat Medical College (SMC) are on a 24-hour token strike to improve ''doctor-patient relationship''.

The strike, which began on 0900 hrs this morning, will end on 0900 hrs tomorrow, sources said.

The striking doctors complained that they were facing a lot of problems as the number of doctors in the hospital is quite low.

''Compared to the number of doctors, who were working in the hospital three years ago, there are now a few doctors to attend the patients,'' a spokesperson of the Junior Doctors' Association said.

This had put pressure on the junior doctors and sometimes led to problems between doctors and patients, a JDA spokesman added.

The junior doctors also said the administration of the medical college should be improved.

However, the hospital authorities said the strike had not affected the function of the hospital, as the senior doctors and professors of the SMC were attending the patients.
