JE toll reaches 353 in UP
Gorakhpur, Nov 22 (UNI) The toll due to the fatal Japanese Encephalitis (JE) disease in Uttar Pradesh has climbed to 353 following the death of two children today.
Joint director health Dr Umakant Prasad said so far about 1,700 people suffering from JE had been rushed to the Baba Raghav Das Medical College here.
Over 50 patients -- including six fresh cases -- are still under treatment.
The JE patients hail from Gorakhpur, Maharajganj, Sant Kabirnagar, Deoria, Kushinagar, Basti, Siddharthnagar, Azamgarh, Gonda and Balrampur districts of UP.
Nepal accounts for eight JE cases reported so far. Of the 353 JE deaths, 45 victims hailed from Bihar.
