India to meet China in Hopman Cup

Hyderabad, Nov 22 (UNI) India will meet China and Chinese Taipei will face Philippines in the opening matches of the Hopman Cup, which begins here tomorrow.

According to the draw picked by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, top seed India was clubbed with Japan and China in Group A, while second seed Chinese Taipei was clubbed with Thailand and Philippines in Group B.

The draw of lots was held in the Chief Minister's Camp Office and attended by All India Tennis Secretary Anil Khanna, Andhra Pradesh Sports Authority Chairman Raj Thakur and tennis players of all the six countries.

In Group A India, Japan and China and in Group B Chinese Taipei, Thailand and Philippines were pitted against each other.

The schedule is as follows November 23: India vs China and Chinese Taipei vs Philippines, November 24: Japan vs China and Thailand vs Philippines November 25 India vs Japan and Chinese Taipei vs Thailand.

The finals will be played on November 26.

Winner of the final will get wild card entry into the Hopman Cup final draw at Perth in Australia. Total prize money for the Hyderabad event is 70,000 dollars.
