Foreign trade through Petrapole suspended
Bangaon, West Bengal, Nov 22 (UNI) Uncongenial situation in Bangladesh has virtually compelled the Indian exporters to suspend foreign trading through the Petrapol corridor in North 24 Parganas consecutively for the third day today.
Clearing agents and the truck owners carrying export goods remained idle, while Bangladesh continued exporting goods. Nearly 500 Bangladeshi trucks were unloaded at Petrapol terminal in three days, official sources at Petrapol said.
The prevailing situation in Bangladesh also disturbed the international bus service. While Kolkata-bound Bangladesh bus did not cross the border today, only one Dhaka-bound bus out of two Indian buses from Kolkata crossed the border, sources added.
Suspension of export, however, caused substantial revenue losses due to present spell of disturbance in Bangladesh, Customs officials observed.
