CPI accuses SP for ignoring Bundelkhand farmers' plight
Lucknow, Nov 22 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (CPI) today slammed the Samajwadi Party led-Uttar Pradesh government for its alleged step-motherly behaviour towards the Bundelkhand farmers.
CPI state unit secretary Vishwanath Shastri here said there is an urgent need of providing a financial package to farmers.
He alleged that the SP was badly defeated in the last assembly elections in seven districts of Bundelkhand, therefore the party is punishing the farmers.
Mr Shastri claimed that between January 2002 and September 2006, over 1,660 farmers committed suicide in the region.
