Chandrapur bandh begins peacefully
Nagpur, Nov 22 (UNI) The Chandrapur 'bandh' called jointly by several dalit organisations to protest the recent killing of four members of a dalit family by villagers in Khairlanji in Bhandara district of Vidarbha began peacefully this morning.
The situation in Chandrapur was peaceful and the bandh evoked a near-total response, District Superintendent of Police Ravindra Kadam told UNI over telephone. The call for the bandh had been given by various dalit organisations and traders had supported the call, he said.
The bandh call has been given to protest the killing of Surekha Bhotmange (45), daughter Priyanka (18), and sons Roshan (23) and Sudhir (21) in Khairlanji late on the night of September 30 over a land dispute.
