Centre sanctions Rs 14.23 crore for road widening in Kerala

New Delhi, Nov 22 (UNI) The Centre has sanctioned Rs 1423.74 lakhs for road improvement works in Kerala.

The amount was sanctioned by the Union Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways under Inter-State Connectivity (ISC)for widening and strengthening of the state roads from Vadakkanchery Mangalam Junction (km 239/000 of NH-47)to Govindapuram in Kerala.

The road from Vadakkanchery to Govindapuram (Kerala/Tamil Nadu border), having a length of 39 km, is the shortest route to Pollachi in Tamilnadu. Pollachi is a market place. This is the way to the famous Meenakshy temple at Madurai in Tamil Nadu .

The traffic on this road is very heavy. The State Government has proposed to widen this to 7 m carriageway and also to strengthen the existing crust by providing 50 mm BM and 25 mm BC.
