Bijapur bandh evokes total response

Bijapur, Karnataka, Nov 22 (UNI) A bandh call, given by Dalit organisations in protest against the atrocities on a Dalit in Nagpur in Maharashtra, evoked total response in the district today.

Schools and colleges had declared a holiday. Shops and business establishments remained closed. Vehicular traffic was affected for a few hours.

Additional Superintendent of Police Shivanand said minor stone pelting incidents were reported, in which a KSRTC bus and an auto were damaged. However, police intervened, arrested 15 miscreants and brought the situation under control. Police personnel were deployed in large numbers to tackle any eventuality.
