BHEL to expand manufacturing capacity

Tiruchirapalli, Nov 22 (UNI) Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) here will expand its manufacturing capacity from 4000 Mega Watt to 5,800 Mega Watt.

Addressing annual BHEL Sub-Contractors' Meet -2006, BHEL Tiruchirapalli Unit Executive Director S Sathyanarayanan said the expansion programme, which was on at an outlay of Rs 190 crore, was part of the expansion scheme of entire BHEL manufacturing units across the country at a total outlay of Rs 1,000 crore.

About 50 per cent of the requisite machines were procured and the new expanded unit would be ready for operation by December 2007.

After attaining 5,800 MW manufacturing capacity, the company would go in for further expansion for an outlay of Rs 500 to 600 crore.

During next phase of expansion, BHEL Tiruchirapalli would equip itself for the installed capacity of close to 8,000 MW, he said.

About leading Multi-National Companies like L&T and Mitsubhishi foraying into manufacture of super critical boilers, he said it would be a very difficult period for the power plant equipment manufactures in the country.

He urged the ancillary units to gear up themselves to face the challenges and double their present capacity by going in for a technical upgradation.
