Australia release Tait from first Ashes test squad

MELBOURNE, Nov 22 (Reuters) Fast bowler Shaun Tait has been released from Australia's squad for the first Ashes test against England starting in Brisbane tomorrow, Cricket Australia said.

The 23-year-old Tait, who impressed for the Prime Minister's XI and South Australia in warm-up games against the tourists, will return for duty with his state side in Adelaide.

Australia, who will name their starting XI shortly before the toss at the Gabba, are now set to opt for either the uncapped Mitchell Johnson or Stuart Clark for the final bowler's berth.

Batsman Michael Clarke was added to the squad yesterday after all-rounder Shane Watson was ruled out of the opening test with a hamstring injury.
