Kolkata, Nov 22 (UNI) A human right's watch group today moved a PIL before Calcutta High Court challenging West Bengal's land acquisition for setting up of small car manufacturing factory at Singur.

The Association for Protection of Democratic Rights (APDR) said in its petition, that the State Land Acquisition Act did not permit the government to acquire the agricultural land for setting up of industries.

It said that the government had promised employment to more than two lakh people but feared that it would never happen in reality.

The case is likely to be heard from next Friday.

The state goverment had been facing a wall of opposition from different quarters, including the local farmers, to set up the unit upon the fertile land in Singur, about 30 kms from here.

The factory would be set up by the TATA groups and the state government was trying to acquire 997 acres of land for the purpose.
