Two women drowned in river Godavari

Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, Nov 21 (UNI) Two women Uttikalla Rani (32) of Peddapalla village and Kovvuri Chantamma (45) of Jonnada who went to have a bath at Jonnada Gowthami Godavari Pushkar ghat in river Godavari here drowned.

According to the police, both went to have bath in the river and unfortunately Chantamma drowned. Seeing this Rani tried to save her by giving her hand but she also got drowned in the process.

Rani's body was found at 1330 hours and sent for post mortem at Ramachandrapuram area hospital, the police added.

Sub-Inspector Alamuru, K Seetharamaswmy said a case had been registered under Section 174 and further effortd were on to trace Chantamma's body.

In view of the 'Kartheega' season, people used to have a holy dip.
