Tension following damage to 'mazars' in Varanasi

Varanasi, Nov 21 (UNI) Tension prevailed in the Narharpura locality here this morning after local residents spotted that as many as five 'mazars' in the graveyard edging the Shershah mosque had been damaged.

Police said here that local residents of Narharpura locality under the Kotwali police station this morning spotted five mazars damaged in the Shershah mosque graveyard. A large number of people from the minority community soon gathered at the spot and raised slogans in protest against the incident by anti-socials.

On being informed about the incident, police and district officials rushed to the spot and immediately ordered repair of the damaged mazars.

The repair work is underway and police personnel have been deployed in the area to maintain peace, police added.
