Punjab govt raises sugarcane price by Rs 17 per quintal
Chandigarh, Nov 21 (UNI) In order to break the wheat-paddy cycle and give a better income to the farmers, the Punjab government has fixed the State Agreed Price (SAP) of sugarcane at Rs 132 per quintal for crushing season 2006-07.
This is an increase of Rs 17 per quintal over last years price, which was Rs 115 per quintal.
This decision was taken at a meeting of the state Sugar Control Board held here today under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.
There are 22 sugar mills in the state with a total crushing capacity of 54,516 tonnes.
